Contraband, Inspections and Exposure
Last checked: · 049-Rev3-L (reference-reported)
Direct answer
Authenticity and legality are separate: a genuine item can still create Security exposure. The official game description connects weapons with inspections and contraband with raids; the structured reference describes Smuggler's Bay as hidden storage rather than a guarantee against every consequence.
Do not confuse concealment with immunity
Inspect the item's tags and the current case before committing money. Showing contraband in the display case has a separate consequence: since Playtest 48.3.12, clearing the resulting inspection does not award Security reputation. Hiding it afterward therefore cannot recreate that old reputation loop.
| Display-triggered inspection | No Security reputation farming reward |

| Smuggler's Bay | Concealed storage role |
Current punishment timing matters
UPDATE 049 decides the officer's sentence on arrival instead of when the case closes and schedules the visit for the next morning after investigation completion. It also fixes several evidence-removal and affordable-fine bugs. Those patch notes are corrections, not instructions for assuming immunity or deliberately reproducing an exploit.
