The search routine checks accessible after-hours equipment. Jackson can offer the scanner, and Electronic Parts upgrade it. Plan empty inventory space for possible extra finds, since a better loot chance does not remove the need to take your chosen items home.
Know the upgrade stop
UPDATE 049 prevents wasting more electronic parts after the scanner is fully upgraded. The underlying reference describes a double-loot-chance stat, not a fixed guaranteed doubling of income. Search attempts and injury still limit the trip independently of the scanner.
